A counselling or psychotherapeutic relationship is based on the premise of empathy, a non-judgmental approach, and openness
Within this framework, it is hoped that a person can feel free to express in full their thoughts, emotions, ideas, problems which may be difficult for them to do in other situations.
The counsellor uses a variety of therapeutic approaches best suited to the client and seeks to help the person gain a greater understanding and acceptance of themselves.
Our integrative approach embraces the following ideas:
- Everyone is in a state of change and development
- Most people live their lives in a framework of relationships
- Everyone has a past and what we do in the present has been shaped by what has occurred previously
- The success of any therapeutic work is dependent on a safe, confidential and respectful setting
